Customer Reviews for the MFJ-1432B.

From: Wiley Clarkson WC5WC
I have been using the MFJ-1432B for about one year. Overall, the antenna performs very well over a wider frequency range that advertised. I live in a rural, very hilly environment in north central Texas and this antenna performs better than commercial quality 3db mono-band antennas tied together thru an MFJ duplexer. However, I have found that there is a definite mechanical weakness in this antenna that MFJ needs to correct. The retainer spring that holds the fold-over assembly is not near strong enough for the weight of the heavy, thick whip the antenna comes with. I have had many instances of the whip pulling the fold-over up and out of the base and falling horizontal when travelling at highway speeds of 65mph or higher making an unplanned stop on an interstate shoulder a necessity, which is dangerous to the driver. Texas speeds on interstates range from 65 to 80 mph which creates a lot of wind drag. This problem is especially true when driving at highway speeds in a windy environment that is very common in Central and West Texas. Specifically, what I have observed in my mirror is the upper whip begins vibrating and loosing the friction grip. The antenna then starts whipping in the winds with the loosened base and this eventually pulls the fold-over hinge upward until the force of wind moving at high speed flips the whip backward into a horizontal position. I cured the fold-over problem by wrapping many layers of electrical tape around the fold-over assembly. While eliminating the problem of high speed fold-over, this also eliminates a feature that is needed for the heavy rigid whip when entering garages or an environment where a low obstruction is present that could damage the antenna. The problem can easily be cured in future production by MFJ by installing a much stronger spring than they presently use.

great antenna for mobile and base use. Has a good ability to get your signal out while in those fringe areas. I live in Houston, TX and there are a LOT of fringe areas when you get outside of the city.
BUT, like the other reviewer said, it has a problem while driving highway speeds of wiggling out and folding over while driving. On a side note. I have a Diamond SG7900 that is comparable to this antenna and it has the exact same issue. Must be a general design flaw.
