|I bought one of these antennas at the Rochester Hamfest this year (2011). Thought it'd be a nice antenna for testing, close-range field use, etc. When I got home, I noticed that the metal hinged piece was loose, and just about fell out of the plastic "case" around the coil. The solder had broken free. Frustrated, I put it aside for a few months. Today, I got curious about how to repair it, as it was glued together. Was able to slit the side of the case, and remove it so I could resolder the coil to the metal piece. I used epoxy to glue the metal to the plastic insulator inside, and then used 3 layers of heatshrink over it. I would have put the case back on, but the whip's threads were glued, and I couldn't separate the pieces to fit the case back over it. So, I suppose it's back together now, but if you buy one, never turn or twist anything, as there is no allowance for any movement, other than the hinge at the bottom of the whip.|MFJ-272
