Customer Reviews for the MFJ-926B.

From: John Dewey KA9CAR
I purchased a 926B remote tuner in December of 2012. It has now been in use for more than a year. It has survived a "Midwest Winter" with temperatures down to -15F. I have it driving a 33 foot "wire" ground plane directly from the binding posts. I am running a 20 watt station, and I have "solenoid wound" chokes at the tuner input which serve to keep RF off of the transmission line and to keep noise off of the antenna.

After some research I learned that the MFJ-926B is actually an upgrade or improved version of its predecessor, MFJ-927. Again per research the 926B incorporates much better weather-proofing, but is otherwise functionally equivalent to the 927. I have mine mounted immediately below a 6-band (40 thru 10, inclusive) fan dipole that's mounted on a 6' wooden privacy fence using electric fence standoff insulators. Certainly not an ideal antenna by any stretch of the imagination, but in combination with the auto-tuner I'm able to consistently achieve better than 1.5:1 all the way across all 6 bands. Realizing it's designed for use in low power applications, I personally don't think you'll find anything better for the money. Highly recommended for any 100w barefoot rig and by deploying the tuner outside at your antenna, all SWR issues are resolved outside your shack.

I've had the MFJ-926B in service for 4 years. In that time it has worked faithfully with only one exception which I caused. I can't remember what I did but the Auto-tuner locked up on me when I did it. I followed the reset instructions in the manual and it came back to life.

My 926B tuner is feeding a pathetic wire antenna which is about 80 feet long and wonders through my garage until it exits to the outdoors right next to a large metal rain gutter where it continues across the yard to 2 metal poles for the main span. Only Marconi himself would know the impedance of the wire. The antenna is only about 15 feet off the ground and has a counterpoise running below. I can only describe the layout of the antenna as "really weird". However, the 926B tunes my messy antenna system quickly every time.

The only periodic trouble I have incurred is when the hot summer dries up the earth around my 3 separated ground rods and then I have to go outside and "water the ground rods". The 926B unit seems to be absolutely faithful and trouble free. I did place an MFJ-915 RF Isolator at the input to the 926B to keep RF out of the shack. KB6DRN
