|IF YOU WANT THE BEST FOR LESS, GET THE MFJ-998RT. I HAVE BEEN USING ONE FOR SOME TIME NOW, AND IT WORKS AS PER SPECIFICATIONS, AND FLAWLESSLY. I HAVE BEEN USING AUTOMATIC REMOTE AUTOMATIC ANTENNA COUPLERS SINCE 1993, AND THIS ONE HANDLES THE POWER AS WELL AS ACHIEVING A PERFECT MATCH TO MY 1400 FEET OF WIRE IN A RANDOM LOOP CONFIGURATION.|
I HIGHLY RECCOMMEND THIS TUNER TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO DO IT RIGHT. THE BEST PLACE TO TUNE AN ANTENNA, AS YOU MAY ALREADY KNOW, IS AT THE ANTENNA, NOT IN THE SHACK. THIS UNIT MARRIED TO THE ANTENNA AND A NEW AMERITRON ALS-1300 SOLID STATE AMPLIFIER IS THE CATS PAJAMAS.
AND ANOTHER THING, IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR PROBLEMS, THE STAFF AT MFJ WILL ACCOMODATE YOU IN A FIRST CLASS MANNER.

|Absolutely superior piece of gear. Demolishes the clichéd and rather lame Internet smear that MFJ only makes "junk" and has lousy quality control. Maybe I am just lucky but I doubt it. |
I am using my 998RT here in Vermont at the base of a 66-foot vertical with more than 80 radials on the ground (35 to 50 feet). I employ a 175-foot run of 50-ohm coax down the hill into the basement shack. Absolutely no problems, "plug and play" right out of the carton with this baby, almost dummy-proof coupler if you stay with factory default settings. An aggressive ground radial system is unavoidably essential and you will KILL with this remote tuner and a vertical radiator if you just get off your butt and lay down plenty of wire radials. Guaranteed winner. No B.S. here folks. I even threw in 1000 square feet of chicken wire so I could say I did it.
MFJ needs to carefully edit (word-by-word) every User Manual for every single product it sells. I found several errors in the manual for the 998RT and I am sad to say that I have spotted really dumb grammar and factual errors in manuals for all other products you have sold me in the past. It may seem a trivial point, but it's surely not and here's why: You guys need to pay attention to the fact that MFJ sells expensive technical hardware that is presumably of first-rank quality. A flawed User Manual imparts a definitive stench to the whole experience. PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE QUALITY OF YOUR USER MANUALS. THEY ARE NOT CRISP.
To sum up, thanks for making this 998RT coupler -- I will sing its praises every chance I get.

|I use the antenna tuner on a 43 foot vertical out in my pasture and I was very surprised at the results from 160 to 10 meters. At no time was the SWR any higher than 1:1.3. Any amateur wanting a good remote antenna tuner that will run a kilowatt I would recommend this one. VE6WT|MFJ-1835COBWEB,HF,1/2 WAVE, 5-BD,10,12,15,17,20 M,300W$219.95
